Manchester Vegan Society.

We were founded in November 2004 as a support group for vegans in the Greater Manchester area.

We are primarily a very lively social group but we support, carry out and encourage any activism that promotes veganism and linked activities, such as animal rights demos. Many of us are also involved in various animal or veganism campaigning activities that we sometimes discuss at our monthly meetings.

We meet once a month, during the day, on the last Saturday of the month. We used to meet regularly at The Basement but since the fire damage last year, we have a roving meeting. We have met at Earth Cafe, Eighth Day, Cornerhouse and more recently, Odder on Oxford Road, as they do really nice vegan pizzas. Currently we meet at Cafe Mod Pop on Oldham Street. At these meetings we discuss food and drink (because we like eating and drinking!) but we also arrange to go to other vegan events around the area and country. We also arrange to go for walks, trips away and other social events. Lifts to events or meeting for trains are organised between us.

We are always open to new ideas and suggestions, such as organising speakers or vegan food evenings. Coming up we have planned a vegan wine tasting event and a vegan pudding event. Dates to be announced in the near future. If you would like an evening meeting during the week in a pub, please let us know.

The main thing we do need is your support and enthusiasm. It's always really difficult to come along to a new group for the first time, especially if you're coming on your own. But be assured you won't be on your own for very long as we are a very friendly and enthusiastic group of people and everyone is made welcome from the minute they arrive. Please give us a try and if you've been lurking for some time, just take out a few hours to come along and enjoy some good food and company.
